Various sizes of chrysanthemums can be found around the shrine grounds. Over 50 wisteria plants can be found around the shrine. During the Wisteria Festival, the grounds are illuminated at nighttime. Over 300 red and white plum blossom trees herald the coming of spring. Michizane loved plum blossoms and composed many Japanese poems dedicated to this flower. *Note that peak flower viewing times are merely estimates. The grounds are home to shrine buildings, a pond, arched bridges, the statue of an ox that is said to cure illnesses if touched, and nearly 100 stone monuments. Kameido Tenjin Shrine is famous for its many flowers, including Michizane’s beloved plum blossoms, wisteria, and chrysanthemums.
